I have a column of imported data that is formatted as 'general' and the values are 14-01-2012. I am trying to convert this to a date and format it like 14-Jan-2012. Do I need to use a cheater column in order to make this happen or is there a way in my macro that I can copy the cell value and use it?

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
You could try Data>Text to columns... on the column to convert to 'real' dates, then you should be able to format as required.

In code you could use DateValue or CDate to get a 'real' date if you really needed the date in a specific format you could then use Format, but that would also convert to text.

That did it! Thanks Norie. Guess I was just trying to make it to difficult.
