If I enter these ..........
A2260595001
A2260595002
.....into cells A1 & A2, highlight both, and then drag-down the last number then increments by 1.

If I enter these ..........
A8878563001
A8878563002
.....into cells A1 & A2, highlight both, and then drag-down the last numbers repeat themselves, i.e. 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2

Why doesn't the 2nd set of numbers do the same as the 1st set?

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Hhhmm that's a good question. I've never seen that before.

If you take the A off, the second series of numbers correctly increment when you drag and fill. You could do a text to columns to remove the 'A', then autofill and then concatenate the A back on again.

This one has got me thinking :(

As an experiment, I used a figure of
a4200000001
a4200000002
and the number will increment when copied down with the fill handle.

If I increase the number to
a4300000001
a4300000002
The numbers will not increment but simply replicate as 1 & 2

Somewhere in-between 4,200,000,000 and 4,300,000,000 is the cut off point for the fill handle to work as a continuous sequence.
I’m a bit sad taking it this far, so I’ll leave it to someone else to find the actual cut off number.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge can explain why this is occurring.
