Cell merge & Validation Break??

This happens to nearly every spreadsheet I make.

After a couple weeks of use, I'll never be able to merge or unmerge cells (the checkbox is blocked with an ominous grey block)

With that same spreadsheet (I wanted to add drop-down lists after I saw MR.Excels's demo on Call for Help) Validation is also greyed-out...

With a new spreadsheet, I'm able to merge and validate lists to my heart's content, however I'm perplexed to why those features "break"

It's annoying having to paste everything over into a fresh spreadsheet just to get the those functions to work again.

Help would be appreciated.. - thanks

Hi, zaph. Welcome to the Bored.

This may be too simplistic, but let me ask you: have you protected your worksheet? If so, the merge and validation options WILL be greyed out.

That was it - sharing the sheet.

It was the "share workbook" option that allows multiple users to access the sheet simultaneously. When I uncheck that option, I can again merge cells and make changes to data validation.

Thanks.
