cell referencing / find corresponding value

hello
I have two columns of data:
- in the fisrt one I need to find the max and that is quite easy to do;
- in the second one I need to find the corresponding value to the max in the first column;
How to do that?
I've been tryng with formulas like "look vertical" but seems not working because data are not ordered in a crescent way...
I think to remember there is some formulas giving the reference of a cell but I'm not sure how they can work out the problem...
anyone can help me?

=VLOOKUP(MAX(A:A),A:B,2,FALSE)
