Cell Selection Problem

Can any one tell me when in Page Layout view, when I select a cell the cell to the right is automatically selected as well.

Why does this happen and how to fix.

It happens anywhere on the page. The cells are not merged.
 

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
