cell text wildcard in SUMIF expression

Hello, I have the following:

=SUMIF($D$2:$D$40,"*my_text*",$E$2:$E$40)


I'd like to replace:

"*my_text*"

with something like:

*C2*

Where C2 is a cell text value but keep the 'criteria' of the SUMIF with the wildcards. (so if C2 = good_friend, then the 'criteria' would be "*good_friend*")
