I want to make a bar chart of a given population over time. I have selected nine censuses that I want to include. I want the population size on the y axis and years on the x axis.

Together the nine censuses span 150 years, but with different intervals.

How do I ensure that 1) the gaps between the bars mirror the time interval, and 2) that only the selected years are displayed on the x axis?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Excel Facts

Highlight Duplicates
Home, Conditional Formatting, Highlight Cells, Duplicate records, OK to add pink formatting to any duplicates in selected range.
If you have Office 2010:
1) To have gaps between the bars you must leave row(s) or column(s) (depending on the layout of your table) empty.
So for small gaps you skip one row with data, for big gaps you might leave two rows empty.
2) Right click your table and select "Select Data". Select the "Edit" button for the "Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels" and select the "years" rows or columns from your table.

Id have thought XY scatter is way to go with that data type. Even though it isn't what you prescribe.
