change all cells in a columns format?

its simple I just cant get it..

change the format of all the cells in one column from General to text

any ideas?

Select the column

Go to Format | Cell

and choose Text

BUT, changing the format doesn't affect the values.

Columns("A:A").Select
Selection.NumberFormat = "@"
