Hi

I have a list of staff names which may be in different colums in a table. I then have a list of names in column J. If a name in column J has a blank cell in column K then the name text in the table needs to change colour to identify it. But the names in column J may not match exactly.

Example John Dow in Column J will match John Dow wk1.

Any help would be great.

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple

Based on my understanding you might have a look at Conditional Formatting. You'll want to use the Use Formula option. If in J3 then enter $K3="" as the formula.

That is using relative addressing BTW. Relative ROW in this case.

Then specify font color to use if that condition is (i.e., formula evaluates to) true.

Good luck.

Hi & welcome to MrExcel.
Could you have something like James Brown & Jim Brown, or will it just be the same exact name but with extra text after it?
