for example if cell C2 is equal to cell F2 then C2 font colour should change to green, if it not equal then C2 should change font colour to red

I realise this is simple, but I am a beginner with these functions.
I am using Excel for Mac 2011.

much appreciated.

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
color c2 red first of all and then use conditional formatting to look at C2 and F2

=c2=f2 and set color to green
