I've tried using Conditional Formatting but it only changes one cell.
I want to type in a trigger word into cell which when entered will change that column or a selection of cells in that column to a particular colour (grey).

(It's for doing staff work rota's and I want to type in 'OFF', that particular staff's column goes grey, and then I know that particular column is inactive...)

Thanks,
Josh

Ps. I don't know how to use any VBA programming or anything, so if there is a simple excel function or something similar that would be great.

Hi Josh

Welcome to MrExcel.

When using Conditional format to apply to a range of cells you need to use absolute referencing. If you use a formula like =A1=TRUE then onlya single cell will change colour. If you fix the row number =$A1=TRUE the highlighted row will change colour, column =A$1=TRUE then the highlighted column will change and both on =$A$1=TRUE will highlight the whole range if A1 is TRUE.
