Changing Default Font/Fill

I am trying to make any changes to a protected document (allowed users to edit certain range, J7:J1752) apparent by making any cell they edit change from the default font color/fill to another font color/yellow fill. I'm not sharing the document so I don't think "track changes" will work, so if this is possible could anybody help me out?
