Ok here is a new one, I have a field called password. Is there a way for me to have users enter a plain text password in this field and after they move off of that cell to change the letters to * like other passwords do but for the cell to still remember the regular password.?

Hi Chad1222:

You can use the following FORMAT|Cells|Number|Custom formating ...

;;;"*****"

This will display 5 asteriks in the cell, where as EXCEL will remember the actual text entry in the cell.

I don't know of all of your requirements. Would this work for you?

This seems to work.

First, select the cell where you want the password.

Press Control 1.

In the first tab, "Number", select "Custom" and enter this format

**;**;**;**

Now, on the last tab, "Protection", make sure that "Locked" is NOT checked and "Hidden" IS checked.

Now, protect the sheet.

The user will be able to enter a password, but they will not be able to see it directly in the formula bar.

Keep in mind that this isn't the most secure method of all... its VERY easy to see the password using just one line of VBA...

Juan's right a simple copy and paste to an unprotected sheet, then a change of format would easily reveal the password info.
