Anyone know how I can change the default template path?
Currently it is pointing to a network drive, and I can't seem to find where to change it.

It is not in General - Alternate startup location.
Neither is it in my startup folder.

Please HELP!!! Its driving me crazy.

According to the help file, you will have to have the Office Shortcut bar installed, here is what it says in the help file:

Change the default folder location for new Office templates
Some of the content in this topic may not be applicable to some languages.

Make sure that the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar is displayed.
How?

On the Microsoft Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.
Right-click the background of any toolbar on the Office Shortcut Bar, and then click Customize.
Click the Settings tab.
Do one of the following:
If you want to change the location where Office programs look for your templates, click User Templates location.
If you want to add an additional location where Office programs look for your templates, click Workgroup Templates location.

Click Modify.

Navigate to the location you want. In the Folder name box, type the new folder name.
Click Add.

Ok I gave that a try since I am using office 2000.

I went to customerize the office toolbar and went to user template path.
For some reason I can't change that path. I tried changing it to another path, but when I click add, nothing happens.

I also added a workgroup template path which doesn't have any influence.

Hmmm, according to Excel help, your default WB template path (the XLSTART folder) is to be set to either <ul>[*]C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel[*]C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11[/list]There's a registry value at:My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options\
with the name DefaultPath. On my machine this is blank. Is there a similar registry setup for XL2000? If so, is it blank on your machine?

Mine is under 9.0, but it is blank too.

Say if you go into the vb editor and type msgbox application.templatepath.
My excel's current template path is that, and I cannot find a place to change it other than through the office toolbar. But the office toolbar does not allow me to change the location. arhhhhhh

I should apologize. I skimmed this thread too quickly. I got it in my head that we were looking for the path to the book.xlt default template. Not the default path to all templates. In Office 2003 they nixed the Office Toolbar altogether. Per HotPepper and yourself, with XL2000 that's how you handle it, so I'm gonna bow out. Sorry for the misdirection.

Another way of changing the default path for excel is to go into Microsoft Word --> Tools -->options --> File Location.

Its wierd that it is in Word.
