Hi All!

This is probably so simple but I can't sort it out and 2007 is so different from 2003!

I want at chart with the Invoice # on the x access, the date on the y access and two columns corresponding to each invoice, the pounds and material type. I just keep creating gobbly gook that looks like this though:

Well, I can't get the picture to post but here is my data table:

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 278pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=371><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 56pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2742" width=75><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" width=64><COL style="WIDTH: 122pt; And the graph has about 10 lines and I don't even know how to make it so that the invoice # IS the x access etc

Any and all help very appreciated!

Okay...Excel's charting still isn't "the best" it could be...but you can trick it into thinking that it is.

Step 1. Highlight the date range and insert your chart to begin the charting. This will put your dates on the Y-axis.

Step 2. Click within that chart and select "select data"...click on the righ-side box where it says "Horizontal x-axis labels"...click on "edit" then highlight your column of PO numbers. This will drop your PO numbers into the x-axis.

Step 3. Click into the chart and "select data" again. Highlight the Lbs column to add your pounds to the chart. This will throw your y -axis into confusion...but bear with it and ignore it. You will now have two-column graphs.

Step 4. Click in the chart and right-click on the lbs data series graph you just added and select "format data series"...and within that menu, select "series option" and put the lbs on the "secondary axis." You will then have an axis labeled opposite the Y-axis.

Step 5. Click in the chart and on the date data series. Right click to get formatting options and fill the graphed series the color white (or to match the background of the plotted area). You want to make this data series invisible.

Massage as needed.

I'm following your steps, and I'm not done yet but, right away it didn't make the date teh Y axis, it made the pounds. I know that I can switch and edit, but why is it selecting the pounds?

And, I think I want the pounds and types to be labels, BUT I like your idea of secondary axis, I'm going to try that!

Thanks!

I see what at least PART of my problem is! I was trying to graph something that isn't a number! On paper I was making a kind of scatter graph, using the invoices sequentially, but they're not really numbers, right? They're names! Hmmm, I wish I could figure out how to put a some kind of picture of what I want some where the board could see!

I really think I've done something like this before, but maybe I'm over thinking this now.

I could use the invoice #'s as numbers, but not in a scatter graph..... I'm playing with it. Thanks!

I have TOTALLY been thinking about this wrong!!!! With the data I have, I want to graph the frequency of their usage and the amounts they use. I want to use the inventory number to identify each order.

I have to rethink this. I'm not even sure where to begin just yet!
