Please some one help me on this. Vlookup is helping only to retrieve the first data and neglects the remaing similar ids.

For instance, Vlookup retrieves only the first value of id 1 - prabhu and does not retrieve the second value.

VLOOKUP will retrive only ONE match.
What would you achive by retriving all matches?

Hi
try the following macro codes
Code:
Sub prabhu()
Dim result As String, x As String
Dim a As Long
x = InputBox("enter the search string")
    For a = 1 To Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
        If Cells(a, 1) = x Then
        result = result & " ," & Cells(a, 2)
        End If
    Next a
MsgBox result
End Sub
It gives all matches for the input string

This will really help me in the office where i am working with huge amount of data's. The one i have shown in my question was just an sample inorder to learn the logic. So I understand from your view that Vlook up won't help for searching multiple similar id's.

I will test this in the office and will come more with questions.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Robert,

I found difficult to compare/check two sheets of huge data's which has similar id's. Please see the below example

For instance, Identifying duplicate data's are very simple. It can be done using count if. But in my case I needed to compare the marks and say which one is false.

If i compared 3 col (marks) using vlookup it checks the corresponding marks of prabhu which is 10 and 10 and states true for both the id's whereas the second id must be false (since it is having 20 and 30).

Hello Prabhu,

If my understanding's correct, you're trying to identify Names and Marks in Sheet2 that don't appear in Sheet1, right?

If so, the following array formula will help identify those that do not exist:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFGH
1Sheet1Sheet2
2IDNamemarksIDNamemarksExists in Sheet1?
31prabhu101prabhu10Exists
42raja102raja10Exists
51prabhu201prabhu30Does Not Exist
63mathi303mathi30Exists
74karthi404karthi40Exists
85raja505raja50Exists
96anbu606anbu60Exists
Sheet1

Excel 2003
#VALUE!
Entered with Ctrl+Shift+Enter. If entered correctly, Excel will surround with curly braces {}. Note: Do not try and enter these manually yourself

Is this what you want?
