check number, cut part out, insert in prev column

Hello all. I have a large list of phone numbers in column F. They are in the following format...

(123) 456-7890

I need to cut out the area code, insert the area code in the previous column, and delete the original area code within the parantheses.

So column G would be...
123

and column F would then be...
456-7890

Any ideas how to do this?

In column G put the formula:

=MID(G1,2,3)

In cloumn H put right(G1,8)

Then copy and paste special values column H into column F.

This is a way to do it withoug a macro.
