Checkbox Form Control

I have a form setup on excel for users to check checkboxes. They are not linked to any particular cell. I just kind of have them scattered throughout the form randomly. I would like to make the checkmarks or checkboxes change color based on the box being checked. I have been attempting macros, but I don't know if I'm just not doing it right because I just keep getting errors. Can anyone help with this??

My form isn't setup this way, but it seems like I have to since there doesn't seem to be any solutions for the way I currently have it setup.
