How do I use a circular formula. Example

cell A1 = .01* A5

a1 = (.01*a5)
a2 = 20
a3= 30
a4 = 100

a5 = (the total of a1:a4)

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying

What answer do you expect from this?

Not sure where this is going, but you can try this

=(0.01/0.99)*SUM(A2:A4)

in A1 and

=SUM(A1:A4)

in A5 and see if it is what you need.

Seti:

Where do you get (0.01/0.99) from?

I was thinking:

In A1:
=0.01*SUM(A2:A4)

In A5:
=SUM(A1:A4)

HotPepper,

I solved the algebra

A5=A1+A2+A3+A4

A1=.01*A5

A5=(.01*A5)+A2+A3+A4

.99*A5=SUM(A2:A4)

A5=SUM(A2:A4)/.99

A1=.01*A5

A1=(.01/.99)*SUM(A2:A4)

But this was guess based on the original post and I could be very wrong.
