Cleaning up an Old Excel Spreadsheet

We have come across a problem with an old spreadsheet that was developed over time. (10+ years). After removing much of the old items in the spreadsheet the file size doesn't shrink when it is resaved. Are there any useful utilities that will go through the files and remove any unwanted items that have built up over time. We have deleted any unused VBA code, unreferenced names, outdated cells/sheets and the file size barely changed. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
One thing I found that takes up a lot of memory is having lots of formatted borders. I recently inherited a spreadsheet with 30 worksheets, each of which had over 20,000 rows with formatted borders, even though only about 50-100 rows was required on each. By just removing the borders, I cut the file size down by 90%. You may want to check if there is any un-needed formatting of any sort.
