Clearing contents from another cell

Hopefully this will be an easy one (?) How do you clear the contents from one cell whenever another certain cell is selected?
I have 2 cells with data validation lists, one of which is dependent on the other one. Whenever the main cell (A1) is selected, I would like for the cell containing the dependent validation list (B1) to be cleared. (Otherwise after selecting one set of values, the user can then change A1, but the pre-existing data in B1 will then be in violation of the data validation list for the new value.)
