Code:
Dim PT As PivotTable
Dim PF As PivotField
Dim PI As PivotItem
Set PT = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1")
Set PF = PT.PivotFields("booking point")

For Each PI In PF.PivotItems
if pi.name  like "X*" then
pi.visible = false
Next PI

End Sub

so it gets rid of all the ones except for one ..basically the positions should always be in booking point that starts with "x" so the purpose of this is to show the analyst potential positions that are incorrectly booked under a booking point not starting with "x"

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
It is not possible to hide all items, so if all items start with "X" then the macro will try to hide all and send an error.
I propose the following:

VBA Code:
Sub test()
  Dim PT As PivotTable, PF As PivotField, PI As PivotItem
  Dim n As Long

  Set PT = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1")
  Set PF = PT.PivotFields("booking point")

  PT.ClearAllFilters
  For Each PI In PF.PivotItems
    If PI.Name Like "X*" Then
      n = n + 1
      If n < PF.PivotItems.Count Then
        PI.Visible = False
      Else
        MsgBox "You are trying to hide all items"
        PT.ClearAllFilters
      End If
    End If
  Next PI
End Sub
