Colouring of Cells.

Is there a formula you can use to colour a cell depending on a value?

And can this be used to colour a cell that the formula isnt in? eg colour cell D4 red when the formula is in cell D10

conditional formatting is what you need - check it out in the help file.

As an example:

Conditional formats check either cell values, or formulas that evaluate to true or false. if the condition is tru, the format is applied.

In the example, the formula in B2 is posted to show how you would set up the value check so that it returns true when the condition is met. If you put this formula in a conditional format (under format | conditional formatting...), you can format cells cepending on the value of a1 - that's wht I did in cell c2.
