Column chart featuring values only for selected months over a long time period

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well.

I am presenting a chart with two historic data points and three forecast data points. There are significant gaps between the data points as they are milestones on a long term journey (the dates are Jan 2000, May 2001, September 2001, December 2001 and March 2002). I want the chart just to show the months for which I have input values (pic 1) as displayed in the screenshot (pic 2), not for all of the months including those with no input values, which is the result I'm currently getting (pic 3).
