column heading has changed

my columns heading have changed to
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ect from
a b c d e f g ect
how do i get standed heading back a b c d ect
its making cell ref hard work
this is on all worksheets and new ones.

What version of Excel are you using?

I think the easiest way to fix that (this should work in any Excel version) is to Copy the following code line...

Application.ReferenceStyle = xlA1

Next, press ALT+F11 followed by CTRL+GV and then, making sure the text cursor is on the same line you just pasted, press the Enter key. Everything should be back to normal again.

For 2010, the deal is the same as for 2007 except the first step would be:

1. Click the File ribbon tab, and click Options.
