Column Headings Have Changed--HELP!!!

We have opened up a workbook and the column headings that are normally titled by letters are now titled by numbers. The cell address for cell A1 now reads something like (R1)....I don't know what happened, but now all my workbooks have numbers for column headings, but the formulas seem to be working fine.....help please.....
