# Column lookups?

If cells A1:A26 contain the letters A thru Z, and up to 4 cells in B2:B26 contain a value, how can I "read off" which letter have a value beneath it, and store the letter/s in, say, cells B27, B28, B29 and B30?

Are the values always the same? Say, 1 thorugh 4, or are they random?

If you're happy to have a calculation column, in cell c1 put:

=COUNTIF(\$B\$1:B1,"<>"))

and copy it down

In cell B27 Put INDEX(\$A\$1:\$A\$26,MATCH(1,\$C\$1:\$C\$26,0))

In cell B28 Put INDEX(\$A\$1:\$A\$26,MATCH(2,\$C\$1:\$C\$26,0))

etc

I always forget the INDEX options.

Thanks, much appreciated
