combining cells & modifying number format

I have used this formula =VALUE(A2)&"("&(B2)&"%" &")" to combine two cells to look like this: 20 (8%).

I would now like to format the number to use 1,000 separator when appropriate so that, for example, another cell would look like this:
2,000 (18%).

I've tried various functions but nothing is working. Is this even possible? Anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Are there decimal places in either number or are they always whole numbers?
