I want to run a macro from a button on the spreadsheet. I see ther are 2 ways to add a button to the sheet - the CommandButton on the Control Toolbox Toolbar and the Button on the Forms Toolbar. Are there any advantages to using a CommandButton or a Form Button?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Welcome to the Board!

If you have a pre-existing macro you just want to assign, then go with a Forms button. A big advantage to Forms buttons is that they can be copied between sheets and retain their assigned macro links, so they're handy if you'll repeat them.

Control Toolbox buttons (aka ActiveX controls) are more robust in that they get coded directly. But the code resides in the sheet module, which makes them specific to each sheet. You can't assign code to CT buttons, but you can call it from its click event:

Code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
  Call MacroName
End Sub

Hope that helps,
