Comments "shrinking" after copy and pasting

One of my workbooks at work has starting doing a strange thing, right after I protected one of the spreadsheets.
I made it so that only a selection of cells could be edited, with the remaining unable to be even selected.
When I copy and paste an identicle region of cells in another spreadsheet (which contains a number of comments) and then paste, all the comments are "shrunk". That is, you can still see that there is a comment there, however when you hover over them all you see is vertical line.
file.php

You edit the comment and then drag the handles to resize the comment (obviously not ideal every time I copy and paste). I know it has something to do with the protection, as it worked for years prior.
In the Protect Sheet window I have selected: Select unlocked cells, Insert Columns, Edit objects, and Edit scenarios.
And ideas? Thanks in advance :D

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Hi firemandave

I have not been able to replicate your problem with Excel 2016  Which version of Excel are you using?

Try unprotecting the sheet before copy and paste - is the comment now the correct size in other sheet?
