Hey I am looking for ideas on how I can compare a column of names with userid's. In column "A" I have 30 + Last names. In column "F" I have 20+ names. There are not always matches for both. Some names missing, some Id's missing. also some last names are the same and are long enough that the userid just includes last name letters. 'Hatcher' for a name may equal 'Hatche' for an userid. If you have two 'Hatcher's' then I would like to change the color to yellow for the last name column just for those that have the same last name and not move or copy them. For those that are missing a last name or ID I will have to work out external to excel, they can be left alone. For those last names that match the first few letters of the Userid, I would like them to copy from column "A" into column "E" -right beside the Userid in 'F'. The last name and and Userid are hardly ever in the same row. Also the userid format varies but always includes 3+ letters of the last name in the beginning. I do relize that only matching 30+ names isnt much, but I have this to do on 24 excel sheets every month and would just like to automate the process as much as possible. Please suggest ideas if you can. For all of it or only part that you may know.

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I'll try to make it easier.

Column 'a' has last names. Column 'B' has userId's. they are in the same row. column 'F' has the same last name, but not all names are in A that are in F and not all in F that are in A. A and F also have repeats of some names. I would like to Highlight all repeats in Column A. Then I would like to take the user id beside the name in column A and copy it beside the same name in column F. -so it would copy to E beside the same name in F that matches the name it A that it is beside.

heres the logic.
If name repeat in column A to another name only in column A then Highlight.

If name found in Column A that is equal to name in column F then copy Column B same row to column E same row as matching name in F.

If no name match in Column A to name in Column F then Next

if Space End
