getting compile error type mismatch for the code below:

If you are just trying to get a folder path, try

Function GetFolderPath(Optional StartPoint As String) As String
   Dim InitPth As String
   If StartPoint = "" Then
      InitPth = "C:\"
   Else
      InitPth = StartPoint
   End If
   
   With Application.FileDialog(4)
      .AllowMultiSelect = False
      .InitialFileName = InitPth
      If .Show = -1 Then
         GetFolderPath = .SelectedItems(1)
      End If
   End With
End Function
