Is it possible to make a cell turn a specfic color based the text that is in it?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
How many different colours are you wanting?
Is the 'text' from a predefined or known list of possible values?

I am just now building the list. It is an "open issues" list. I have a column that I will type in "Open" or Closed". I would like the Open issues to be yellow in that cell or the "Closed" issued to be red in that cell.

In Conditional Formatting, set Condition 1 to: Cell Value, equal to, ="open". Set the format to yellow fill Pattern. Same for Condition 2 except ="closed" and red fill pattern
