Conditional format based on other column

Good morning,

I have a sheet where in column O, I used conditional formatting to highlight the top 3 values and bottom 3 values. I need to have the same highlighting for the corresponding cells in column A that show up in column O.

How can I make this happen?

I have these values in column a and the values that were calculated using the rank formula in column o. Using Excel 2007, I used the top 3 and bottom 3 conditional format to color the cells in column o. I need the corresponding cells in column a to match the color of column o.

My solution should still work. Just replace P with A and make sure the condition applies to columns A and P.

be sure to anchor those ranges

$O$1:$O$100

so then you can either use the format painter to apply the conditional formats, or highlight the cells and apply the conditional format

Basically, this tells excel that for every row within O1:O100, if the value of O's cell is greater than or equal to the 3rd largest value, or less then or equal to the third smallest value, O and its corresponding cells will be affected by whatever formatting you apply.

To make this work, you have to make sure you fill out the "Applies to:" section properly on your rules manager. If it's rows A and O only, write:

=$A$1:$A$100,$O$1:$O$100

I ended up using conditional format rules of:
=OR($O4=1,$O4=2,$O4=3) and
=OR($O4=11,$O4=10,$O4=9) in column O then copying the format to column A.
