how does one conditionally format only the last cell entered into a column? in my table, the last cell is in D87: i want to shade this cell so that the user is drawn to it. using this formula in an adlacent area to my table: ="$d$"&ROW($D$6)+COUNT(D:D) - i can identify the cell adress as $d$87 but i am unable to get the cf to work using the formula.

any suggestions?

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
Will the last cell in the column be text or numeric and can whatevers in the cell be duplicated within the same column?

Thanks aladin. now how do i remove the fill applied when the next row of data is entered? i want to have the last cell only highlighted. i tried:

=ROW()<MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307,E:E)

but its not working

You do not need a second CF formula... the one formula that Aladin Akyurek posted takes care of that for you automatically.

thanks rick. what triggers the CF? when i first enter a new figure, the CF works immediately on this new cell. however, it does not on the previously highlighted cell one row above. i can only get it to fire if i change tabs and then come back.

Select column D.

Invoke the suggested formula in CF along with the desired formatting.

It will now fire up always on the last numerical entry in the selected reference.

Precise instructions how to set up CF depends on your Excel version if you need further help.
