Conditional formating based on column

I have an excel that has data points entered in columns D through R down 20 rows. Each column represents a month in the year, Jan through Dec. The data points are entered each month and then recapped with the boss. In column B, is a conditional format(Icon sets) based on the value of the column I am entering. Now every month I have to change that format to the column that I am entering. I would like to have it change the conditional formatting based on the month I am entering the data.

So for example, I am entering February data points which is Column E all the way down and because I am entering the data in the month of February, then the conditional formatting in column B references column E data points. The value it is basing the formatting isn't changing for each row.

I have knowledge of VBA but I have never done anything like this and don't know if I can do it without it. Thanks

Best way to learn Power Query?
Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.
I was never real good at conditional formatting using formulas without some trial and error, usually just use the offered rules, that being said could you create a helper cell, where you enter the month and can use it to change a variable in your conditional formatting.
