Conditional Formatting and blank cells

Hi

I have a range of cells with conditional formatting changing background colour depending on value. The value in each cell is determined by a formula which takes values from other cells outside the range etc.

If the other cells have no value then I want conditional formatting within the relevant cell within the range not to run and thus to be a blank white empty cell.

I have tried creating a rule for blank cells but this doesn't seem to work if the cell has a formula in it. I have also tried a formula along the lines of '=ISBLANK(I12)=TRUE' but again this doesn't work.

In both cases the Conditional Formatting runs even though the cell has no value

How do I get around this

Many thanks

Can Excel fill bagel flavors?
You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK

You can try one of these options:
=I12=""
=LEN(I12)=0

I generally do something like this. If the original CF formula is:

=A1<10

I'd change it to:

=AND(A1<10,A1<>"")
