Cells in column A will read "yes" or "no".
If cell A5 reads "no", B5,C5,D5 & E5 need to turn red. This should repeat all the way down the page. How can I do this. I can get individual cells to work but can not apply it to whole columns (colums B to E should all have the same conditional format).

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Highlight columns B to E

then put in the following conditional format

Formula is

=$A1="no"

and set a red format

this will then work for all rows

Thanks for your reply.

I have managed to work that out and have specified a range of cells ($A1:$A500) and it works. However, I just wondered why it will not work when selecting the whole column ($A:$A).

Thanks.
