Hi,

I am trying to do conditional formatting (coloring the background of cells if they are not equal to their corresponding cell in another column), but when I enter:

cell value is not equal to =$AB

I get a formula error.

However, when I enter a formula pointing to a column that starts with one letter (A thru Z, for example), I don't get an error....

Does it have something to do with the columns that have 2 letters in their name ?

I'm stumped !

Waterfall charts in Excel?
Office 365 customers have access to Waterfall charts since late 2016. They were added to Excel 2019.
Perhaps it's just the way you've worded your questiosn... but you don't have a ROW associated with the $AB. This won't work for any column... if you used $AB1 it would work fine, and still copy down to other rows if you need... eg: copy to next row down the formula will change to $AB2

Cheers

convert 1099 to $1,099 ?

I can't seem to convert a column of numbers to their dollar equivalent with the comma separator... (1099 to $1,099 for example)

I selected the cells, and tried:

currency $1,234

number 1,234

custom #,##0

Nothing seems to work....

Can anyone help ?

Are you sure your numbers are real numbers, not "text" numbers? Select one of them and look in the formula bar. If the number is preceded by a comma, apostrophe or caret, it's text. If that's the case, let us know and we'll show you how to procede.
