I've had issues with conditional formatting extending beyond the range it's defined for (for example, conditional formatting is defined for A3:G3, yet it also formats cells outside this range like A4). It seems to get triggered by the existence of conditional formatting in adjacent cells (but not necessarily the execution of the formatting). I'm pretty sure it's a bug. If this bug is well known and has a name, let me know the name and I'll just google it

The weirdest part is, this bug doesn't show up in a file that's a few years old. I copied the parameters exactly and I still had the issue in the new file. It's possible the old file was made on a different version of excel and the bug is just an excel 365 thing

Excel Facts

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Maybe not a bug, but unless you tell us how the conditions were imposed, on what range you want them, and exactly what the conditions are, there's not much can be done to help you.

Well, it mysteriously started working correctly. I'm sure it's a bug though. There's no way excel would conditional for to cells outside a specified range without being asked as a feature. I was hoping someone else had encountered it and knew the name off the top of their head. We'll see if it crops up again
