Conditional formatting

Hi There,

A couple of questions.

1) I have created a rule for conditional formatting and wish to copy this to other cells. I have used the Format Painter but does not do what I need it to do.
Rule 1) If Cell Value is greater than N2 highlight Green.
Rule 2) If cell Range is between L2 & M2 Highlight Red

I want to create the same rule but in row 3 I want it to look at L3, M3 & N3 not N.

How can I do this for all rows without manually doing each 1?

2) I have a custom Cell [h]:mm;@. I want to convert this in to standard text / numbers.
For example the numbers in the custom Cell are 168:43, i want this to be displayed in another cell as 168.43. Or 149:23 to 149.23.
I was hoping to use a simple formula like =F2 (where the customer cell is) and it would just convert it.

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Regarding Conditional Formatting, I have always had some trouble trying to use the Format Painter to copy Conditional Formatting rules.
I have found the better way to do it is to first select the whole section you want to apply it to, then write the Conditional Formatting as it applies to the first cell in your selection.
If you have written the formula using the correct mixtures or locked, fixed, mixed cell references, the formula will automatically adjust for all the other rows.

See here for information on the cell references: Absolute, Relative, and Mixed Cell References in Excel
In your case, it does not sound you will need to lock any cells.

Solution
@Joe4 Thank you very much, this explains a lot and fixed the issue.

Any ideas with the 2nd question?

How about just formatting like:
[h].mm;@

You are welcome.

Which solution works best for you depends on whether you are just trying to change how the value is shown, or whether you want to actually convert it to a decimal value.

Also, for future reference, when you have two distinctly different questions like this, it is typically best to post them to separate threads. That way, if one is answered but the other isn't, the other one still shows up as an unanswered question. Also, if people know the answer to one, but not the other, they might be inclined not to answer at all (if they don't know the answer to both). So you will typically increase your chances of getting timely answers by posting different questions to different threads instead of lumping them to together in one.
