How can I do this? Please help.

If there is any “letter” in cell A1, cell B1 will be “green” and cell C1 will show “Completed”

If cell A1 is blank, cell B1 will be “red” and cell C1 will show “Not Completed”

One way:

Set cell B1's background colour to green
Select cell B1 and conditional formatting
Change the setting to Formula is and paste this formula =ISBLANK($A$1)
Set the format to a background of red
Click Ok,Ok

Put this formula in Cell C1:

=IF(A1="","Not Complete","Complete")

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dom Hill. Cell c (with complete or not complete) worked fine. But cell b did not work. Any advise?

B1 format Green (will be overwritten by conditional format)
B1 conditional format ..... Formula Is ... =A1<>""
(2 quote marks means "nothing")

C1 formula .. =IF(A1="","Not Completed","Completed")

If =ISBLANK($A$1) is not working try =A1=""

Both should have the same effect as far as I know.

Don't forget to set the format in the conditional formatting to red background colour. If A1 is blank this will then overrule the standard background green colour that you should already have set.
