Is there a way to make conditional formatting look at another cell's value in order to determine what formatting to use? I want to make a cell's text white if the value of a pull-down menu is not "other", thus making the cell appear blank.
thanks!

P.S. I heard about Mr. Excel many years ago on Tech T.V. with Leo Laporte - Nice to finally visit your web site!:)

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).

Hi, and welcomer to the board.

Try this: =AND(A1<>"other") and select font colour to suit.

Now it's doing something weird: it's applied the conditional formatting rule to the entire worksheet.... Anyone know why that happened?

Did you have more than 1 cell selected when you entered the CF formula?

I must have - but I don't recall doing that. I did a "go to" > Special > Conditional Formatting > All, and verified that it wasn't applied to all cells, but a few of them, which I removed.

Programs.... they trip you up all the time! hehe!

Thanks for the quick replies - I had no idea there would be such helpful people replying so quickly!
