I have a sheet that has a column labeled "Date Ticket Out" and what I want to do is use conditional formatting to change the color when the date the ticket is enter exceeds 3 & 5 days.

Basically what Im doing right now is "cell value is greater or equal to and I pick the same cell I originally insert the ticket date out is. Is this wrong? Another words, I enter say 4/1/11 and in 3 days the cell turns green and after 5 days it turns red.

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Highlight cells less than =NOW()-3 set up format for green

Highlight cells less than =NOW()-5 set up format for red

On your ticket out column

Using Formula Is,

Try as the 1st condition

=TODAY()-A1 > 5

Second condition

=TODAY()-A1 > 3

Where A1 is the cell that houses the date entered

What have you tried?

I tried yours and I entered as you stated and it does not change. Lets say I put in todays date 4/5/11 and I change the date on my system to the 12th, the cell does not change to red as needed. Do I need to create an additional cell for the formatting? I think I got myself lost in this.

Is there a chance that you need to change your date formatting for that cell?

Not sure I understand what your asking... Basically, it's a cell in a column that is labeled "Date Ticket Out", when we issue a job ticket to the field, we would enter the date we issued it in the cell and in 5 days I would like that cell to turn red to alert our staff that it needs attention.
