Hello,

I’m having an issue with conditional formatting and wouldreally appreciate some kind of advice spelled out for an idiot please!

I wanted to colour the entire row A2 to V2 if the vlookup inS2 is returning the text “Approved” – this works fine but then when I try andcopy the conditional formatting down for the entire spreadsheet using theformat painter it keeps messing up and only fills S3 (for example) and not theentire row (A3 to V3) even though in the original CF rule I have only lockedthe column not the number?!

Hopefully that makes sense to someone!

Thank you so much – Laura

Excel Facts

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
using a formula
select the range you want to highlight

A2:V1000 - or whatever you range is
OR you can use
A:V
But the formula needs to refer to row1 $S1 , otherwise it will be 1 row out if you use $S2

and then in the formula you need to fix the column using a $

so
=$S2="approved"

that will stop the formula changing the column as it tries to apply the conditional formula to the rest of the range
