I have a flight logbook, where each row is a flight entry and each column has various data. Column A is the date of flight, column G is the flighttime. On a sepearte page I want to have monthly and cumulative entries. "a5" is a date I want to sum til. I tried this however it didn't work. How can I fix it, or is there something better to use.

=SUMIF(Total!$A$5:$A$2000,"<a5",Total!G$5:G$2000)

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Have a look a Pivot Tables. You can group your Dates in Column A by Months for your Row field and use Sum of Flighttime as your data field
