I want to conditional format a cell base on the sum of two other cells. It would read like this: If x is greater than y + Z then x turns red. There is already a formula in X that gives different results based on a Y or N, but that shouldn't be a problem......right?

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
You dont say the cells they are in so ive assumed y in A1, z in B1 and x in C1. Highlight cells you want to apply the conditional formatting to. Then on the conditional formatting button-New Rule-Use formula-Format values where this formula is true place:

=C1>A1+B1

Format to however you want it to look.
