If I have a bunch of names in column A and many of them are listed more than once, how can I consolidate the list to only show 1 occurence for each name that is listed?

Ive seen this before and I think it puts + signs to the left of the cells to create an expandable list, but cannot remember how to do it.

Thanks

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
In Excel 2003:
  • Select the rows you want to group,
  • Select Data (from menu bar at top), then Group and Outline, then Group

Haven't used 2010 yet and only have 2003 at work. Have 2007 at home, I'd suspect 2010 is similar but not sure of the top of my head how. Have you tried to search your answer, say via Google?

It seems like SUBTOTAL seems to work well in 2010.

Select the text, Data, Subtotal and just click ok. Then you can expand and collapse.

You need to sort before you group or subtotal, other wise a new group or subtotal will occur each time the name changes.

If you want a list with each of the names list just once, try the advance filter copying the results to a new location and marking the box unique records only.
