convert conditional formatting to normal formatting

I'm just a beginner trying to do something simple. I would like to set a format conditionally, retain the result and then go back to normal formatting for sharing. I am highlighting (color coding) different tasks to be performed for multiple jobs and sharing the workbook so others can track the progress of those jobs (also by color coding). I'm using Excel 2003 and Windows XP. Thanks for your time and consideration.
