Convert text numbers to numeric format

Could anyone please advise the function which I can use to convert numbers stored as text to numeric format.
any help welcome

Depending on the layout of the data, you could try the Data|Text to Columns menu option.

Why not just change the cell format to number?

OR... (I'm gonna use the menu upon right clicking with the MOUSE)

Select the range of cells you want to convert from TEXT to NUMBER.
Right Click on cells.
Choose Format Cells
Choose Number Tab
Click on NUMBER, and set decimal places.

OR... The more RELIABLE FORMAT CHANGE...

type a 1 in an empty cell.
Copy that cell with a [ctrl][c]
Select the range of cells you want to convert from TEXT to NUMBER.
Right Click selected range.
Select PASTE SPECIAL from menu.
Select MULTIPLY, click OK
then do what Seti suggested for good measure.
